The project focuses on the redevelopment and energy efficiency of the building known as "Ex Inam." This building, owned by the ASL of Vercelli, will be granted to the Municipality of Varallo with the aim of transforming it into a facility for the accommodation of people with mild disabilities, providing medium-intensity assistance through the creation of a residence for disabled individuals with related services. The need for this project arises from the requests of numerous families with disabled children. These families, coming together in an informal group led by professionals working in Third Sector Associations, have expressed the need and urgency to initiate projects in the area aimed at creating new inclusive living spaces close to the community. The main body of the building will host a series of rooms on the raised ground floor intended for activities proposed by local associations, as well as a small gym dedicated to rehabilitation. On the first floor, there will be the "residential" part of the complex, with 4 bedrooms for 2 people each and the main services for supervision, as well as spaces dedicated to the care and listening to users. The floor concludes with a therapeutic terrace facing Viale Cesare Battisti. This space, thanks to its strategic position in relation to the urban fabric, will host a refreshment area, a meeting point, and cohesion between the local community and the guests of the facility. This volume is not only designed as an element of local entrepreneurship that can be activated in the area, but it also completes the project by providing a job opportunity for those hosted in the facility, in addition to being the environment dedicated to meals. A small expansion is also planned, which will include the construction of a wooden structure with a rehabilitation pool inside. The total cost of the project is 3,300,000 Euros and it has been selected by the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation as a pilot project for social cohesion.
