The project for the Oleggio Sports Hall aims to create a new modern sports facility for the Oleggio Magic basketball team. Currently, the team competes in Serie B of the Italian championship with excellent chances of promotion, which was narrowly missed in the 22/23 season. Several design options with different capacities have been presented for the intervention, and here the version for 2000 spectators is represented. The dimensions, compliant with Serie A2 of the Italian championship, ensure the retention in the top league and a structure suitable for hosting events of significant importance. The structure resembles an arena type with an elliptical shape that enhances the viewing of the spectacle and the capacity. Access to the area, along the southern side of the lot, is through a large paved but permeable square, while the entrances to the structure are located to the south and east. The first allows access to the stands and basketball-related activities; the second to the climbing walls, a sport that is no longer niche and increasingly popular. The arena is served along its entire perimeter by an elliptical walkway that recalls the historic track of athletics and allows easy access to all functions of the sports hall. The project stands out for the introduction of architectural systems aimed at rapid installation and ease of maintenance, such as the ceramic slats that cover the entire hall, and for the choice of sustainable and permeable materials in the external pavements. The project serves as a model of urban intervention that enhances the existing sports and cultural heritage through innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity.
